Faith in Tough Times

Being a Christian doesn’t mean life is always easy, and the Bible is full of stories that show us how people deal with the challenges life throws at us.

In September and October 2025 we are running a sermon series about Faith In Tough Times and hope that it will provide support for people going through the valleys of life. It sets out to:-

  1. Share wisdom from the Bible and Christian experience about how we live with faith through the challenges life brings us.
  2. Build a culture of vulnerability, honesty and preparedness to face difficult topics in the Church
  3. Encourage us all to share stories and resources (in a safe and suitable way) to help and inspire one another.

Take a look at the topics we will be handling below. We would love it if you would let us know of any resources, sites, books, podcasts that have helped you through tough times. You can share confidentially by handing in an unmarked paper in an envelope marked “Tough Times Resource Ideas FAO Web Ninja” or if you’re willing to, send an email to [email protected] and mark it as “Tough Times Resource Ideas FAO Web Ninja” in the subject bar. It is our intention as a Church to keep this page as a resource for whoever needs it, to update and adapt as necessary, so if you find a useful resource even weeks after the sermon date, let us know.

7th September: Mental Health

Many people in the congregation will have been affected by mental health issues, either personally or through someone they know. Most of us have struggled at times with anxiety, hopelessness, fear or depression. What are the challenges of living faithfully to the Word of God, which encourages us to not be fearful when our minds often lead us to do exactly the opposite.

14th September: Sickness

How do we pray when we or someone we love are ill? How do we hold on to the hope of healing whilst remembering that healing may not come in the way we want it to?

21st September: Betrayal or Disappointment with Others

Jesus was betrayed by someone he regarded as a friend. This week we are invited to think about the times we have been betrayed, let down or disappointed by others. How do we forgive others? Are there times when forgiveness is not appropriate or possible? Does reconciliation automatically follow forgiveness?

28th September: The Fear of Not Enough

At the time of year when we celebrate Harvest and the great abundance of God, how do we handle fear of not enough? How do we handle our excess? What constitutes good stewardship, and how do we respond to the Global need?

5th October: Temptation

12th October: Grief

19th October: Feeling Abandoned By God

26th October: Busyness
