Special service with Communion for Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. It occurs 46 days (40 fasting days, if the 6 Sundays, which are not days of fast, are excluded) before Easter. Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the desert, where he endured temptation by Satan. Lent originated as a mirroring of this, fasting 40 days as preparation for Easter.
Nowadays many people choose to either give something up or to do something extra during lent.
This year, following on from the sermon series looking at compassion we are going to use the 40acts challenge during lent. You can sign up on the 40acts website.
