Hello Graham, I guess you will remember me! I am one of the 4 German friends which appeared on 24.05.2010 at St. Peter, we were walking one of the beatles-tracks. You gave us an wonderful view on how it all has begun with the world mostpopular band. Thank you so much for this unforgettable and gorgeous day in may!!! It was a great pleasure to stand beside you in the hall where the "quarryman" performed their show in 1957! All the best to you and your wonderful city Liverpool. Matthias, Frankfurt-Germany

I cannot describe how wonderful it was to eventually get to Woolton Village and St. Peter's Church on 26th May 2010 to meet Graham and see where "it all began" on that fateful day of 6th July 1957 when John Lennon met Paul McCartney and changed the face of popular music forever. It was magic to be shown round by Graham and to go into the church hall where Bill (my husband) and I were treated to a musical history lesson about that special day in July and also to hear about so many other wonderful facts concerning the Quarrymen and the churchyard. We also enjoyed seeing the tributes and memorabilia on the walls in the hall. It was a fantastic highlight to our Liverpool trip. We come down often as we love the "Liverpool atmosphere", but this trip was extra special!! Thank you SO much Graham for your time and patience, not to mention all the little anecdotes you told us on our tour!

In May 2009 we visited St Peters Church on our tour of the Beatles and after 1/2 hour of looking round I was lucky enough to meet Dave Peters who was kind enough to show us around St Peters and the church hall telling us all about how Paul and John met. My daughter of 16 is a huge fan of the Beatles collecting every thing she can on them so when Dave was kind enough to show us around the church hall it was the most wonderful day of her life. I have heard Dave is not very well hope he gets better soon will be thinking of him and his great kindness to us .Happy New Year to all and to Dave and family

My husband and I visited your lovely church on October 2 with Joey- a Beatles taxi tour. We continue to talk about the incredible caring, friendly people that we met - Dave, Kip and Graham Paisley. The sense of community felt not only in Woolton- but all over Liverpool warms us still. Now I appreciate the surroundings that helped to create the unique individuals that became the Beatles. Merry Christmas to you all!

Just to say thank you for the beautiful Baptism service held on 25th Oct for several children including our daughter Mia. I had been telling relatives and friends what a peaceful, warm and welcoming place St. Peters was and every one who came to celebrate Mia's special day commented on how lovely the service and members of the church community were. Special thanks to Ruth who was so supportive and a fountain of knowledge and of course Kip.

My hubby and I are coming down to Liverpool from Scotland on Saturday (5th August) for yet another visit to the place "where it all began" - so far we haven't made it to your church but this time it is DEFINITELY on the agenda - we'll probably visit on the Sunday (6th August) before we head home again - is the church open for visitors or just when there are services on? Hope to see you then!!

Just wanted to echo the words of Jolanda, re Dave Peters. I've just returned from Liverpool, which I was visiting as a Beatles fan on a 'pilgramage' with my wife and son. We found St Peters church hall and were happy enough just seeing the building and the plaque on the wall but as we were about to leave Dave arrived and offered to give us a tour inside. It absolutely made my day. Totally magical. I can't thank him enough. With kindest regards.

It is lovely to have the most memorable site for every Beatle-fan, especially for me who is from Indonesia, in the other part of the globe. Last year we were the one of participants to the International Beatleweek Festival in Liverpool, but we didn’t get much of a chance to go to this historical site. The Magical Mystery Bus just stopped for only a couple of minutes, obviously because it wasn’t be able to find a proper spot to park. Yet we saw from inside the bus how the park was. Next year we plan to participate in such event again, and this time we would like to get better view and have a picnic or some sort on the park. I saw in your website that’s possible. Is there any information or, are there any dos and don’ts regarding this matter? Thank you very much Kind regards

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that you were not able to visit the church and hall on your last visit to Liverpool. If you visit again please get in touch beforehand and we will try and show your around the premises and you can even have your picnic in the church hall if it is free. However St Peter's is a working church so there may be times when it is not possible to show you around. I look forward to meeting with you in coming months. From Graham (Administrator) |

Graham, we met some 3-4 years ago when you kindly showed my wife and I around St Peter’s, the first time I had been in the church since 1948. With Easter on the horizon I thought you might like the following that I wrote exactly 50 years ago whilst in the forces. It was based on my memories of St Peter’s in the 1940’s when I was a very junior choirboy who lived in fear of a flying hymn book from the organ loft if I mis-behaved in Mr Humprey’s reign. Times have changed but some things still remain the same. Easter in Much Woolton In yellow straws and red felt hats, In smart tweed suits with a buttonhole The bells chime out their Easter peal, As up the hill they stroll. Beyond the timbered lynch gate, The be-daffodiled churchyard shines. The choir begins the processional, Mingling with the bell-tower chimes. “Christ the Lord is risen today.” Surpliced cherubs sing from oaken stalls, Resounding, descanted “Alleluia! Alleluia!” Echoing from the sandstone walls. The congregation kneels in prayer, Silence reigns for seconds. The church fills with an aura, Now the Lord He beckons. “Christ the Lord is risen today.” Is there for your acceptance. “Christ the Lord is risen today.” Is sung with all triumphance. The doors swing wide, To release the organ’s boom. The choir files out, Into the shining light of noon. Silence, heads bent in prayer, The organ has lost its swell, Thankful prayers are offered, “Christ has conquered Hell”. The yellow straws, the red felt hats, And the smart tweed suits with a buttonhole Walk down the hill with steady step, And the peace of a quieted soul.

A Week into Advent Storms clouds batter the window pain Candle flames dances to the sound of the whistle A gentle life seems to quietly flow by Memories of past storms coupled with quieter Memories the first time remembering Hearing a Cuckoo Cuck Kuck Kooing With my sister in the priory on Woolton Hill Oh to fly back with that cuckoo into times gone To finish off conversations and snatches long since Flowing by on the storm clouds of life The unspoken words the thoughts misconstrued Actions as the candle flame lightly dances To the soothing lilt of my melody of life Played on a penny whistle By David Ashton 7th December 2008 at 22.03 hrs.

I recently heard about Dave's illness from my friend who lives there in Chester. I was saddened and sorry to learn that he is so ill. My husband and I, along with my friend there, visited St. Peter's this past August, and, as so many visitors have written here, Dave warmly welcomed us and offered to take us around the grounds and the hall, showing us things and sharing his memories and stories. It's quite astounding when one considers just how many times he has done this for Beatles fans and all out of the goodness of his heart and his love for the Beatles! My family and I wish Dave the very best and will keep him in our prayers.

Last Saturday, my wife and I were about to wrap up our Wales, Ireland, and Liverpool vacation and drive back to London for our flight back to the States, when we decided to drive around the city and see if we could find St Peter's. We are lifelong Beatles fans and hoped to spend some time at the famed site where John and Paul met. We found the church, parked our car, and stepped out, trying to get our bearings. two slightly perplexed and confused American tourists. Dave Peters spotted us and came over, introduced himself, and then offered to give us a personal tour. Amazed at our good fortune, we immediately said yes! Dave took us around the churchyard and cemetery, pointing out the gravestones of Eleanor Rigby and George Toogood Smith, and showing us where the Quarrymen played on that legendary afternoon in 1957. He also added his own personal insights, which made that distant day come alive for us. When we thanked Dave for being so gracious and showing us around, he said, no, there's so much more! He then took us across the street and into the meeting hall where John and Paul actually met. Dave showed us where the stage was set up that evening and exactly where Paul and John talked for the first time. He also showed us John's drawing of a yellow whale on the bulletin board and asked us to sign the guest book. We felt very honored to do so. With the tour complete, Dave and I spoke for a few minutes about our families and how important they are in our lives, a conversation that I will treasure for many years to come. Jody and I had such a wonderful, magical afternoon at St. Peters. All because of the kindness of Dave Peters. Thank you so much! David Hedrick
